Wildcat golf season starts Monday
The Columbia Falls golf team kicks off its regular season next Monday in Ronan with the Columbia Falls Invitational.
The tournament is hosted by Columbia Falls but played in Ronan to attract teams from the south, coach Gene Marcille said.
The Wildcat golf team has about 20 athletes this year, but most are fairly young and fairly new to the sport, Marcille noted.
The boys team will hinge on senior Henry Chisholm and junior Gabe Love. Chisholm qualified for the state tournament as a junior and sophomore. Love played pretty well last year, but just missed the cut to make it to the state tournament.
The girls are young but add Ashley Trueblood to the team. Trueblood is a good athlete and an excellent softball pitcher. Marcille said it will be interesting to see how she does at golf. The girls team has two returning players of note — Ali Gould and Shealyn Lefebvre.
After Monday’s play, the team travels to Whitefish for a tournament there. The short season wraps up the first week of October. Columbia Falls will host the divisional tournament at Meadow Lake Resort on Sept. 25.
Football is away against Lewistown Aug. 30, cross country is at Libby Aug. 29, and volleyball is home Aug. 30 against Corvallis.
Volleyball has a 10 a.m. start. Soccer starts its season away the next week — Sept. 5 against Belgrade.
