Two Columbia Falls junior high runners had a nice showing earlier this month at the National Junior Olympic Cross country Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Dec. 13.

Sixth-grader James Role took 299th out of 362 runners in the 3K with a time of 12:23, a personal best for the young runner who started competing this fall.

Kimberly Peacock, a 13-year-old seventh-grader, placed 179th out of 384 runners in the 4K with a time of 16:09.

Family members described an outpouring of support to help the runners.

“The effort to get them to the Junior Olympics demonstrated how supportive and giving our community is,” Kimberly’s mom, Heather Peacock, said. “There was an awesome outpouring of support to help fund the trip. At a fundraising spaghetti feed held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, our two families and a handful of friends cooked and dished food for three hours.”

Plum Creek also provided a monetary donation to help cover the runners’ costs.
