Cabin Fever Days returns to Canyon Feb. 14-16
The 36th annual Cabin Fever Days will take place on Friday through Sunday, Feb. 14-16, in Martin City, Hungry Horse and Coram.
The main event is the annual Bar Stool Races held on Sugar Hill in Martin City. Sign-ups for the races starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with time trials beginning about 1 p.m. and finals at 3 p.m.
Over the years, the event has drawn dozens of racers and even national media attention. Race categories include steerable, non-steerable and open class, where anything goes. Past entries have included a cowboy riding a wooden horse, a complete electric rock-and-roll band on a platform with skis, and a red jammer bus filled with revelers.
Other activities include a kids carnival and sledding in downtown Martin City, snowshoe softball at the Martin City baseball diamond, pool and darts tournaments, a AAA Arm Wrestling Tournament, a Rochambeaux Tournament, the Canyon Jail fundraiser, sumo wrestling, a keg toss, a weeklong poker run, a rock-paper-scissors tournament, and mountain man contests that feature hatchet and knife throwing contests.
New this year are children’s events to be held in the Martin City Fire Hall, including a magic show by Dan Jimmerson on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 4 p.m.
Live music will take place at a number of venues. Participating bars include the Stonefly Lounge, Packers Roost, South Fork Saloon and Deerlick Saloon. A continuously running free shuttle service will connect parking lots at those locations.
A $3 button is required to attend any Cabin Fever Days event. They can be purchased at the Hungry Horse Liquor Store, Dam Canyon Shop, Glacier Center Cenex and Tamarack Lodge, and at the Martin City entrance and on the free shuttle bus.
The event is organized and sponsored by the Trapline Association, which raises funds for the Canyon Quick Response Unit, Martin City Volunteer Fire Department, Canyon Kids Christmas Fund and Canyon Community Group. For more information, visit online at www.cabinfeverdays.com.
