The Columbia Falls Relay For Life event will be held at the Columbia Falls High School track on Friday, July 11, with walks starting at 6 p.m. and running until morning. The theme this year is superheroes.

Participant are urged to come sooner as there will be games and prizes for children on Friday evening. Families in the past have camped at the track overnight with their children.

Rita Vanpelt says she’ll be walking with the Glacier Bank Believers team for her ninth year.

“We don’t have a costume idea yet,” she said last week.

Vanpelt has lived in Columbia Falls for about 25 years. She was treated for thyroid cancer in 2009 and is 100 percent cured.

“It’s the best cancer to get,” she said. “It’s easy to cure.”

The annual event raises money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. For more information, contact Brittany Quick at 800-227-2345.
