Football history

The Brunett family has been in the Columbia Falls area for about five generations. I remember my father Donald Brunett tell me stories about the community support when he played high school football in Columbia Falls. Leather helmets were the safety attire back then.

My brother Bill Brunett and I also went to Columbia Falls High, receiving honors there. What a great community and support we had there. When I attended high school, we were Class AA, and our team was outstanding.

One coach and teacher I had I feel has influenced my life to this day. Joe Moody is one heck of a guy. I had the honor of holding the school’s rushing record of 1,603 yards until a great player by the name of Nate Thompson broke it. It should be noted that he was playing in Class A league while I was playing in Class AA league.

Anyway, now my oldest son, who has roots in Columbia Falls, has been selected to play in the East West Shrine Game. I am proud my brother and I had the same honor of playing in that game, and as a father I can’t be more excited to have my son Alex added to that list. He attended Jefferson High School and was named All State. He is heading to the University of Montana-Western to attend college and play football.

Thank you to the people of Columbia Falls for all your support.

Neil Brunett
