The Glacier Symphony and Chorale enters its seventh season of summer classical music with its Festival Amadeus, and this year the Whitefish-based concert series comes to Bigfork.

Festival Amadeus in Bigfork will be Aug. 5-7, at Pope John Paul II Church. The concerts will feature Kinga Augustyn on violin and Spencer Meyer on piano, the Fry Street Quartet, the Mozart Piano Wind Quintet, and Tanya Gabrielian on piano.

After the opening night of Kinga Augustyn on violin and Spencer Meyer on piano, the Fry Street Quartet follows on Wednesday, Aug. 6. On Aug. 7 is the Mozart Piano Wind Quintet, Tanya Gabrielian: piano, and Festival Amadeus Orchestra woodwinds.

Gabrielian is joined by orchestra woodwind principals Reid Merley, Dinah Weimer, Alicia McLean and Paul Rossi for Mozart’s delicately beautiful Piano Quintet in E-flat Major, plus music by Handel, Glinka-Balakirev and de Falla.

John Zoltek, music director for the Glacier Symphony and Chorale, said Bigfork was a natural extension for the Festival, having it firmly established in Whitefish. “We recognize that Bigfork is a unique vacation destination, and we felt we wanted to expand Festival Amadeus there,” he said.

The three concerts in Bigfork will be chamber music this year, and depending on community support and audience attendance it could expand next year, Zoltek said. The Bigfork concerts will feature a wine and champagne tasting prior to the concert.

Festival Amadeus will be the first major classical music offering in Bigfork for the summer. “This raises the profile of the arts in the Flathead Valley,” Zoltek said.

This winter, the Glacier Symphony and Chorale returns to Bigfork for its annual Handel’s Messiah run.
