Honor roll

Three Columbia Falls High School students were left off the honor roll list is last week’s Hungry Horse News. All three earned straight A grades and were on the high honor roll for the second semester — juniors Carla Nicosia and Dalton Halden and sophomore Nicolas Ream.

UM grads

A total of 2,362 students at the University of Montana-Missoula are degree candidates for spring semester 2014, including 179 certificates, 256 associate degrees, four education specialists, 1,259 bachelor’s, 345 master’s, 74 juris doctorates and 245 doctoral degrees, and 176 double degrees. Local students include, from Columbia Falls — Cody Bowman, BSHHP Health and Human Performance; Chase Fairbank, BAE Education; Logan Hunter, BSHHP Health and Human Performance; Samantha Maas, BA Communication Studies; Samantha Maas, CERPS Communication Studies; Patrick McElwain, MS Speech Language Pathology; Brittany Ratzlaff, BAJ Journalism; William Walker, MA Counselor Education; Adam Woods, BSRM Parks, Tourism and Rec Management GPA 3.7 or higher; Adam Woods, BA Parks, Tourism and Rec Management GPA 3.7 or higher; and Benjamin Woody, BA Psychology; from East Glacier Park — Anne Grant, MS Environmental Studies; Bernadette Lintner, DPT Physical Therapy; and Ti Stalnaker, BA Theatre.

Dean’s list

A total of 2,917 students at the University of Montana-Missoula made the spring semester 2014 Dean’s List. Local students earning a 3.5 or better GPA included, from Columbia Falls — Stephen Baumgartner, Cody Bowman GPA 4.0, Sara Christensen, Chase Fairbank, Danielle Gilley GPA 4.0, Joshua Haverkorn, Quenton Hegel, Daniel Jones, Jennifer Jurva, Uriah Keller, Natalie Law, Cory Logue, Sarah Lovell, Samantha Maas, Brian Marcille, Alyssa Salandi, Adam Woods GPA 4.0, Benjamin Woody; from East Glacier Park — Ryan Taylor GPA 4.0; and from Hungry Horse — Jesse Flickinger.

Navy grad

Navy Seaman Apprentice Joshua Rossman,  a 2013 graduate of Columbia Falls High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, in Great Lakes, Ill. Rossman received an early promotion to his current rank for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle,  which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

MSU dean’s list

Two Columbia Falls area students were named to the Montana State University-Billings 2014 spring dean’s list — Jinise Osborne, GPA 4.0 and Nathan Trueblood.

UM scholarship

Alesia LaRoque, a 2010 Columbia Falls High School graduate, recently received a $2,100 Bonhomme Scholarship from the University of Montana. She is a senior at UM majoring in elementary education. The Bonhomme Scholarship Fund was established in 2001 by the estate of Peter and Elvi Bonhomme, of Big Timber.

College award

Nicole Vargas, of Columbia Falls, a senior at Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., received the Carl W. Ackerman-Ralph W. Nicholson Award during the college’s award convocation on April 9. The award is given to a senior who desires and merits advanced study in journalism adn public affairs.
