Good leadership

| March 14, 2014 6:44 AM

Lasting protection of the North Fork of the Flathead River drainage is one step closer to reality thanks to the leadership of Congressman Steve Daines.

His efforts led to the passage of the North Fork Watershed Protection Act by the U.S. House of Representatives on March 4.

This important conservation legislation complements efforts in British Columbia to maintain outstanding water quality, vital fish and wildlife habitat, key populations of rare species, as well as other natural resource values throughout the entire North Fork area.

The act culminates many years of cooperative effort and will benefit Flathead Valley residents and visitors for generations to come.

We should appreciate Congressman Dianes’ sponsorship and continued support of the North Fork Protection Act. Let’s encourage him to work with Sens. Jon Tester and John Walsh and to influence his Republican colleagues in the Senate to keep this bipartisan legislation moving forward and attain passage in the U.S. Senate.
