Kindergarten Round Up

Dayton Elementary Kindergarten will have its Round Up and Child Find April 24.

A child is eligible for kindergarten next year if they will be five on or before Sept. 10, 2014.

Hunter Education

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks is sponsoring a free hunters education course for adults and children ages 11 and up. The course runs March 26 to April 7. Student must attend every class. School district elections

Elections for the Bigfork School District Board of Trustees are May 6. Three of the seven seats are up for election.

Two of the seats, currently held by Doug Fraley and Paul Sandry, represent the Bigfork elementary and high school districts. The third open seat, currently held by David Carlson, represents the Bigfork high school district and Swan Lake-Salmon elementary district.

Individuals interested in running for these trustee positions must have petitions with signatures from five qualified voters turned into the district clerk by March 27 at 4 p.m.

Petitions can be picked up at the district office or found on their webpage at www.bigforkschools.org. Community members who wish to vote in the election must be registered by April 7. Absentee ballots will be available April 16.

78th Annual Cherry Growers’ Meeting

 The 78th annual Flathead Lake cherry growers’ meeting will be March 29 at the Yellow Bay Community clubhouse. 

Ron Moon, a leading Washington grower and crop management consultant, will be the speaker. The meeting is open to all cherry growers in the area at a cost of $15 per person for registrations received by March 21.

Timber show at Bigfork museum

The Bigfork Museum of Art and History has opened its new featured exhibit, “Timber! Exploring the History and Art of the Timber Industry.” The exhibit highlights the people who carved out a living from the forests of Northwest Montana.

 Pie auction March 28

The Swan River Community Hall hosts its 15th annual pie auction on March 28 at 7 p.m.

This event highlights two talented local auctioneers taking bids on pies and desserts. Pie slices will be sold at $2.50 each or $3 for pie a la mode, and free coffee and lemonade will be served throughout the evening. Admission is one pie or dessert, or $5 per family. All proceeds will go toward maintaining and upgrading the Swan River Hall.

POSITIONS OPEN

FOR FVCC BOARD

Candidates interested in running for positions on the Flathead Valley Community College Board of Trustees have until March 27 to file their candidacy.

Two positions are open both in the Bigfork, Columbia Falls and Whitefish School Districts and are currently held by Thomas K. Harding and John M. Phelps.  Both the positions in these districts are for three-year terms beginning May 2014 and expiring May 2017.  To qualify for the positions, candidates are required to be registered voters of Flathead County and reside in the Columbia Falls, Bigfork and Whitefish School Districts.

The election will be run in accordance with the regular Flathead County school elections May 6.

BIGFORK FAIRY TALE BALL

Bigfork Elementary School will host the Fairy Tale Ball Friday, March 21 from 6-8 p.m. in the cafeteria. Come dressed as your favorite storybook character.

FVCC TALENT SHOW

Flathead Valley Community College Student Government will present the fifth annual “FVCC’s Got Talent” competition March 21.  FVCC students will showcase their talents as they compete for cash prizes.

Talents will range from singing and playing instruments to glow in the dark dancing and a humorous monologue performance.  The event is at 6 p.m. in the FVCC Theatre inside the Arts and Technology Building. Tickets are $5 for general admission and may be purchased by calling 756-3387.
