What about charity?
Driving around the valley, occasionally I see some poor soul sitting on the median hunkered down with their dog in the cold, with their sign asking for help or money. They seem to be invisible; they go unnoticed; car after car passing by.
In those moments, I envision a different reality, where everyone takes just a moment to roll down the window, “wad up” a dollar bill and throw it in their direction. Imagine, after a very short time, happily, the person in need would have to have a huge bag to carry it all home, their needs met for at least awhile.
I have heard of communities that have outlawed panhandling, but I would much rather live in a valley that would set a different example; one that would make an effort to outlaw poverty and make our valley a place that is known for welcoming and helping people in trouble and need.
In this current economic environment, everyone should be able to relate to people in financial trouble, and, at least, in this season leading up to Easter, take a moment to “wad up” that dollar bill and make this month one of charity.
