Kudos for musical
Recently I attended Columbia Falls High School’s production of the renowned play “Bye Bye Birdie.” I was struck by the superior effort put forth by the student actors and actresses, not to mention the live orchestral accompaniment.
Having been fortunate enough to see several Broadway productions in the past, this production was both invigorating and inspiring. Students from all walks of life came together to produce a night of pure live entertainment.
Matt Ford, the director, deserves a round of applause as well. He donated his time and experience to bring this wonderful musical to life. This all was done with absolutely no school funding.
Astounding, considering what is spent on all of the school’s athletic pursuits. Athletics are very important for the student body and for those fortunate enough to gain scholarships for further education. Drama is also important, for those students who have an interest and aptitude in this particular area.
As a parent of both athletes and actors, I would like, in the future, to see more support of the drama program. If the attendance of the play was any indication of the support the local community has for such productions, it would be great if the drama program could also get the financial support it needs to continue to offer opportunities to the aspiring actors and actresses that are also a significant part of the student body.
Kudos to all the young men and women who put it all on the line to bring us a dramatic gem.
