Stop trapping

| March 31, 2014 8:02 AM

I urge people to sign the petition to end trapping on our public lands. I was hiking in a Montana national forest allowing my dog Dude a much deserved run when he was drawn to and then stepped into a steel leg trap.

His screams were unbearable. I had problems releasing him, and due to some serious wounds, I carried him most of the three miles back to my truck. Fortunately, a skilled vet was able to save the little guy’s leg.

Trapping is as cruel as those among you that practice it, “heritage” or not. Please visit the Trap Free Montana Web site and judge for yourself.

Years later, Dude, age 14, was shot by a neighbor near Ronan the very first time he got loose and crossed the man’s property. That incredible dog climbed more than 60 peaks and hiked thousands of miles with me during our time together. Best friend ever.

I know this question is beyond many readers comprehension or caring but Where is this world’s compassion for animals?
