Alexander, Nicosia shine at track meets

The cream is rising to the top in Columbia Falls track, as athletes fine-tune their skills heading into the final meets of the regular season.

The team had some standout performances at the Missoula Top 10 meet on April 29.

Nakia Alexander won the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet 6 inches, Ty Morgan was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 169 feet, 6 inches, James Ratzlaff was sixth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:51.88.

On the girls side, Carla Nicosia continues to do well in the triple jump, with a leap of 36-8 for first place. Samantha Mundel took fifth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:28.38 and sixth in the 3,200 with a 12:19.60.

Next up was the Whitefish A.R.M. meet on a damp dreary May 3. As a team, the girls took fourth and the boys took sixth.

Alexander won the triple jump again with a leap of 42-11/2, and Morgan took third in the javelin with a throw of 163-8. Ratzlaff took sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 54.70.

For the girls, Nicosia won the triple jump with a leap of 33-81/2, while Allyson Gimbel took sixth with a 31-21/2. Ellie Johnson and Summer Burlage tied for top honors in the long jump, each with a leap of 15 feet even.

Andrea Getts was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 112-2. The girls were third in the 1,600 relay with a time of 4:24.90 and fourth in the 400 relay with a time of 52.79. Mundel took second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:34.22.

The teams travel to Kalispell on Saturday for the Archie Roe meet.
