The Flathead Lacrosse Club’s high school team ended up in fourth place at the conclusion of the Montana Lacrosse Association’s state tournament in Whitefish this past weekend.

The local team lost to Bozeman 11-7 in the bronze match on Sunday, May 18. Flathead went into the tournament with a 5-5 record and finished the tournament at 1-2.

Flathead had a great opening game on Saturday against the 10 Sticks team from Polson and Lake County, defeating the visiting team 11-1.

“We played this team at the beginning of the season, and they gave us our first loss of the year,” Flathead coach Matt Rizzolo said. “We just wanted to play our game. Our players know we have good systems in place.”

Flathead lost the semifinal round to Missoula Hellgate, 18-1, also on Saturday.

Visiting teams playing at Smith Fields in Whitefish included 10 Sticks, Sentinel, Skyview, Hellgate, Helena, Billings West, Big Sky and Bozeman.

Hellgate defeated Helena 16-9 to win the tournament.
