The Swan Lake Ranger District on the Flathead National Forest is requesting comments on the Condon Mountain Fire Salvage environmental assessment.

The Condon Mountain fire, which burned in 2012 on the Swan Lake ranger district, is approximately 5,501 acres in size. The purpose of the project is to salvage burned trees for wood products. The environmental assessment includes three alternatives.

One option is to harvest approximately 513 acres of national forest lands using ground based, skyline, and helicopter logging. The proposal also calls for the construction of about a mile of temporary road, which would be rehabilitated after their use.

Another option is to harvest on approximately 210 acres of national forest service lands using ground based and skyline systems. No temporary roads would be used.

Comments will be accepted until May 31.

The environmental assessment is available online at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/flathead/landmanagement/projects.
