The purchase of land for a new greenbox trash site in Bigfork has been delayed.

Flathead County was scheduled to close on the purchase of five acres for the new site from Tim Calaway on Nov. 7, but discovered that a new survey of the parcel would be needed.

It could be another 60 days before the purchase can be finalized, according to Dave Prunty, Flathead County Public Works director. The purchase of the site came after months of negotiations between Bigfork residents and Flathead County to keep a trash site in Bigfork. Flathead County had sought to close the Bigfork greenbox site because of safety concerns at the site on Montana Highway 83.

The new site will be near the Little Brown Church, northeast of Streeters Corner. Flathead County will create a new tax district on Bigfork-area residents to pay for annual maintenance of the trash site.
