Vals win two
The Bigfork Valkyrie volleyball team has two more home court wins under their belts, defeating Mission 3-1 on Thursday, and Troy 3-0 on Saturday.
Both games were similar in that the Vals didn’t really start to heat up until the second set. Against Troy, Bigfork barely squeaked out of the first set with a win, eventually taking it 25-23. The first set against Mission neither team had more than a one point lead until Bigfork began to pull away at the end, getting up to 21-24. Mission bounced back and took the set 26-24.
But against both teams, Bigfork came back strong, sending aces over the net and taking the rest of the sets. Abbie Fraley kicked off the second set against Mission by sending 10 serves in a row over the net.
“It was good to be on a roll,” she said. “And I think it really set the pace for the whole game.”
Bigfork won the set 25-10.
“I was really encouraged to see them taking control of the game,” head coach Melody Strauss said.
Bigfork had 36 kills against Mission led by Fraley, Lana Berg and Marissa Hiza.
Fraley’s service against Troy was also a big factor in that win, with nine aces.
Bigfork plays in Eureka on Thursday and hosts Plains on Saturday.
The Saturday home game is a cancer awareness game.
