The federal Bureau of Reclamation recently awarded a $7 million contract to Voith Hydro Inc., of York, Pa., for turbine repair work at the Hungry Horse and Grand Coulee dams.

The turbine runners to be serviced at the Hungry Horse Dam have been in operation since the early 1950s. The work will involve welding and grinding and is expected to take about five years to complete.

“This work will ensure that these important hydropower units continue to operate well into the future,” Bureau of Reclamation regional director Lorri Lee said.

Voith is one of the leading suppliers of hydroelectric equipment, technology and services. The company is home to one of the largest dedicated hydro turbine equipment manufacturing facilities and is the only turbine manufacturer in the U.S. with a hydraulic laboratory.
