Wooden boat foundation seeks new volunteers
The Montana Wooden Boat Foundation is looking for a few good men and women to become volunteers and be a part of an exciting new Boat Building Program for the youth of Flathead Valley.
Volunteers will learn to build and sail Remote Control Model Sailboats, and become part of a volunteer team to help introduce the program and work with students at Flathead County Middle Schools and High Schools. The Remote Control Sailing Program is a part of the Montana Wooden Boat Foundation’s After School Activities Programs which were launched in 2011.
The Remote Control Sailing Program is designed to help establish this fast growing international sport in Flathead Valley. participating schools will be given Remote Control kits and supplies to help get the Program underway. After completing the kits, students will be taught to sail their boats and learn the basics of competitive sailing.
During the second phase of the Program students will participate in interscholastic regattas on local lakes as the lead-up to the Annual Wood Show in Lakeside, where school teams will vie for the Montana Wooden Boat Foundation Regatta Cup.
Remote Control Sailing has become a great for young students to transition in to full-scale sailing and racing.The Boat Building workshops will be held on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M at the Montana Wooden Boat Foundation’s Center in Lakeside.
