Vals need two more wins
After two ties and a loss the Valkyries soccer team is clinging to hope that they might still qualify for post-season play.
Bigfork fought hard last week to tie Libby and Columbia falls, but was unable to hold back Polson in the second half of Saturday’s game at Carlyle Johnson field.
The first half of the game ended in a 0-0 tie, but Polson picked up steam and got four goals past Celeste Rehbein after halftime.
“We needed to be first to the ball,” head coach Mike Marchetti said. “That first goal always has a tendency to deflate a team.”
The Vals played Whitefish at home on Tuesday and travel to Libby on Thursday for the last two conference games in the season. Marchetti said they needed to win both to still have a shot at making the playoffs.
“They just need to step up. This their time. They’re a really good team,” he said.
