Bigfork came out fast on Friday to shut out Plains 49-0 at home.

The Vikings kicked off to Plains, who immediately lost the ball. Josh Sandry took the turnover straight into the end zone on a 45-yard run for the Vikes’ first touchdown just 33 seconds into the game. Jonathan Landon’s extra point kick was good, giving Bigfork a quick 7-0 lead.

Sandry kicked off to Plains, who fumbled the ball on their first play, turning the ball over to Bigfork five yards from the end zone. Sandry completed a pass to Landon for another touchdown.

Plains’ possession didn’t last long, when Plains’ Ethan Stafford was tackled by Bigfork’s Tyler Piazzola for a safety, expanding Bigfork’s quick lead to 16-0.

Vinny Quirk found the end zone two more times and gave the Vikings a 30-0 lead with more than six minutes left in the first quarter.

Sandry closed out the first quarter of the game returning a Horsemen punt for another 34-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter Landon completed a pass to Kyler Oster for Oster’s first career touchdown.

Gabriel Broughton scored the Vikings’ final touchdown at the top of the fourth quarter with a three-yard run.

“I’m proud of the way we started the game, fast,” head coach Todd Emslie, said. “It was a great team win.”

Every Bigfork player saw field time in the game, which was great for junior varsity athletes who had several weeks off without a game.

Quirk, Sandry and Cody Cislo led Bigfork for rushing yards and Adam Jordt led for receiving.

Matthew Farrier and Logan Taylor led the defense in tackles.

Plains struggled to field a team this year with only about 20 players.

Bigfork will need to refocus this week as they gear up for Friday’s game at Eureka. Eureka lost to Troy last week 27-26. Emslie said the Vikings need to win their next two games to get their ideal spot in the playoff bracket.

“They will be ready,” Emslie said. “They understand what’s at stake.”
