County to buy land for new trash site
The Flathead County Commissioners unanimously approved the purchase of land in Bigfork for a new green box trash site on Monday.
The county is purchasing land behind Crossroads Christian Fellowship, near the intersection of Montana 35 and Montana 82, from Tim Calaway and his father-in-law, Richard Whitaker.
The new site will be funded by a rural special improvement district, which will assess an extra fee to residents inside the Bigfork Elementary and Swan River School districts.
Estimated annual cost to landowners within the rural special improvement district would be $39.75. Without recycling capabilities, it would be $26.69.
Construction should be completed in 2015.
The county plans to make extra efforts to obscure the green-box site so it’s not an eyesore. In addition to fencing, there will be earthen berms with landscaping, Prunty said.
