Season celebration
The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce will hold an end of the season celebration at the Glacier Outdoor Center in West Glacier on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Reservations are not required. Free screening
The Summit in Kalispell will hold a free prostate cancer screening session on Sept. 17 and 18 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Register for an appointment by calling 751-4500.
Vets wall
American Legion Post 72 is accepting applications for placing names on the Veterans Memorial Wall in Marantette Park in Columbia Falls. Vets must have lived in the School District 6 area at least five years and served during a declared war or police action. Cost is $100. Property values
The Montana Department of Revenue will bring its 2014 Property Reappraisal Roadshow to the Outlaw Convention Center, in Kalispell, on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Officials will present a preview of the 2015 reappraisal cycle, key components and trends in property values, and approaches to determining value.
Underground dangers
The Flathead Electric Cooperative reports several recent incidents of people or businesses accidentally digging up underground power lines. Whether planting a shrub, rototilling a garden or installing a fence, people are advised to request that buried facilities be located and marked with paint prior to digging. The Sons of the American Revolution is seeking sponsors to purchase wreaths to be placed at the Montana Veterans Home Cemetery in Columbia Falls on Dec. 13. Garage sale
The Columbia Falls Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their 17th annual garage sale at Angie’s Greenhouse, on the U.S. 2 strip in Columbia Falls, from 8 am. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 27. The fundraiser will help pay for new chamber banners, the Children’s Holiday Village and Community Pride projects. Drop off items on Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 6 p.m.
Metals class
Columbia Falls High School is offering an Introduction to Metals class for adults on Fridays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. from Oct. 3 through Dec. 19. Students will learn beginning oxy-acetylene brazing, welding and cutting, electric arc stick and MIG welding. Some aluminum foundry is possible. Rod Cogliati is the instructor. Cost is $100. The class is limited to eight students. Sign up at the high school office.
Scholarship
Cheyannne Flickinger, of Columbia Falls, is one of five Northwest Montana high school students to receive a Horatio Alger Montana Scholarship award this year. Fifty students from across the state will receive $6,000 from the program funded by the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation. The University of Montana will add $5,000 to that amount. The $11,000 will be disbursed over the course of the students’ college careers.
