The Columbia Falls boys soccer team notched its first victory of the season, beating Laurel 1-0 at home Sept. 13.

Keenan Jessat scored the Wildcats’ lone goal 22 minutes into the second half, as the boys held on for the victory.

The Cats lost 1-0 to Billings Central the day before. The Rams’ Braedon Trunkle scored 31 minutes into the first half for the victory.

Wildcat keeper Brandon Karberg continues to keep his team in games. He had five tough saves against Billings Central and equally as many against Laurel.

“It was good to have a win,” Coach Peter Browne said. “The other games we’ve played have been pretty tight.”

He gave kudos to Karberg, who’s having a solid year.

“He’s doing a great job for us,” Browne said.

The Cats begin conference play Thursday with a home game against Libby at 6 p.m. They then travel to Bigfork on Saturday for a game at 2 p.m. The Cats are now 1-3 on the season.

Against Libby, the Cats just need to play their game, Browne said.

“We need to settle down a little bit,” he said.
