Real change comes from the inside out
This morning I tuned into “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd as the new moderator. In one segment he had invited the mayors of Pittsburg, Tacoma, and Oklahoma City to share their stories of coming from the depths of despair to vitality. One was a Democrat, one a Republican and one an Independent. Despite their political views, they each spoke with a similar attitude, focus and vision.
These mayors each had to work with a city council comprised of people in different political parties with varying attitudes and beliefs. These mayors each had to deal with a citizenry against higher taxes. These mayors each had to deal with the elements of greed and big money influences. These mayors each had to deal with rebuilding infrastructure, race issues, crime, ethnic challenges and all manner of social issues.
Contrast this with our present political state of affairs nationally and you can see what a ‘challenge for change’ we have before us in America. Consider political decisions based upon fulfilling crying needs rather than filling the pockets of the greedy. Consider politicians working for the good of our nation rather than grandstanding to get re-elected. Consider political parties willing to work together for the good of the whole.
There is great discontent in America today. Much of it is being fed by certain media giants spewing forth anger and hate. Congratulations to “Meet the Press” and Chuck Todd for telecasting this three city segment. There will be more to come, I believe.
We know that all real change comes from the inside out, from the base up and from discontent to action. We might as well get on with it.
