The Bigfork Vikings football team rolled over Florence-Carlton Friday in a 52-8 victory at Florence.

The Vikes set the tone early with a four-yard touchdown by Vinny Quirk about nine minutes in.

Josh Sandry followed up with a 44-yard touchdown run two minutes later, and the extra point kicked by Jon Landon brought Bigfork’s lead to 13-0.

With four minutes left in the first quarter, Quirk ran for a 32-yard touchdown.

Sandry completed a pass to Quirk with a over a minute left for an 81 yard touchdown to close the first quarter with Bigfork leading 27-0.

“We came out and started fast in both offense and defense and just played some really good football,” head coach Todd Emslie said.

The Vikes maintained their lead, scoring twice early in the second quarter — Sandry with a 31-yard touchdown run, followed by a pass complete to Tyler Piazzola for a 29-yard touchdown. Bigfork continued to keep Florence out of the end zone, leaving the score 39-0 at the end of the first half.

In the third quarter Sandry completed a pass to Adam Jordt with about six minutes left for a 36-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 46-0.

With about four minutes left Matthew Farrier intercepted a Florence-Carlton pass for another Bigfork touchdown.

Florence continued to work and eventually found the end zone with a minute left in the third making the score the final 52-8.

“I was really, really happy with how they bounced back from the Choteau game,” Emslie said. Bigfork lost to Choteau 28-21 in their home opener.

Several players stood out and helped contribute to the win.

“Vinny (Quirk) had a great night running and catching the football,” Emslie said. “The line blocked well, led by seniors Tyler Iverson, Logan Mejak and Aaron Luna.”

Quirk had 81 yards receiving and 99 yard rushing. Senior quarterback Sandry also had a good game, passing 204 yards and rushing 90.

Jordt had a breakout game, Emslie said, with 63 yards receiving and catching two passes.

With such a commanding lead, Bigfork was able to get some of its younger players on the field.

“Everyone that travelled down there got to play in that game,” Emslie said.

The Vikings travel to Ronan on Friday, who are currently 2-0.

“Ronan is a very good football team, they’re coached very well,” Emslie said.
