Volleyball to play Thompson Falls on Saturday
Valkyries volleyball had mixed results last week. After a three-set victory over Eureka at home on Thursday, the Vals fell to Florence in three sets on the road.
Head coach Melody Strauss said the results of Saturday’s match were a bit disappointing.
“I think it was probably a combination of them being tired as well as being a little intimidated,” she said.
Florence took down Bigfork 25-11 in the first set, 25-17 in the second set and 25-16 in the third.
Struass said it was probably Lana Berg’s best match of the season. “She was vocal, she passed well, she hit well, she blocked well,” Strauss said.
Berg had six of Bigfork’s 14 kills and three of their seven blocks. Thursday’s home match against Eureka was more balanced. Bigfork won in three sets, each one 25-21. Strauss sent them into the match ready to play scrappy and pick up every ball.
“We did that very well the first set,” she said.
Eureka steadily trailed Bigfork in each set, leading only at the beginning of the third set.
The Valkyries travel to Thompson Falls on Saturday. Bigfork lost twice to Thompson Falls last year in conference play, but beat them in divisionals. “It should be a great match,” Strauss said.
