During the past two legislative sessions, 2011 and 2013, House District 3 Rep. Jerry O’Neil, R-Columbia Falls, sponsored 30 pieces of legislation. With the exception of non-binding Joint Resolution 3 in 2013, “Limiting the power of the U.S. Congress to regulate commerce,” the remaining 29 bills either died before being submitted or failed to pass out of committees comprised of majority Republicans.

Such failed content included, “Allowing defendants to bargain for corporal punishment” and “The elimination of minimum wage to high school dropouts.”

It is a costly and time consuming process for legislative staff to write such frivolous bills. When compounded with his daily legislative stipend and living allowances, residents of House District 3 have precious little in return from Rep. O’Neil.

In reviewing committee assignments, he has failed to gain leadership positions within one of the 16 legislative committees. This fact despite previous years in the Montana Senate. In the past two sessions, while representing a portion of the North Valley, he has not served on an “off season” interim committee, where much work is done in preparation for an upcoming session.

Zac Perry, the Democratic candidate for House District 3, offers a positive alternative to the incumbent representative. Zac cares deeply about good jobs for residents of the district, equitable taxation, access to your public lands and state funding for public schools. He won’t waste taxpayer money with frivolous bills destined for the trash heap.

It’s time for accomplishment from your representative to the Montana Legislature. Vote for Zac Perry.
