Bigfork High School boys soccer is picking up steam after their first week of conference games.

The Vikings beat Polson 2-0 on the road and Columbia Falls 1-0 at home last week.

“That speaks a lot to our midfield and our defense and how hard they’re working,” head coach Bill Buxton said.

Kyle Thomson, assisted by Carson Cantrell, scored the only goal Saturday against Columbia Falls in the first half of the game.

“I feel like we did pretty good,” Thomson said. “But there are a lot of things we can work on.”

Bigfork had 18 shots on goal in the game and Buxton would like to see the team do a better job of taking advantage of those opportunities. “We just need to keep focusing on our last touches and our finishing,” he said.

Thomson also scored both goals against Polson Thursday, the second assisted by Tyler Zavala.

Buxton hoped the Vikings could carry the momentum to Tuesday’s match against Whitefish. After Tuesday’s match the Vikings get a bit of a break before hosting Libby Sept. 30.

“The great thing is two shut outs in a row for us,” Buxton said. “That gives us a lot of momentum moving into the next game.”
