Wrestlers fight hard at Whitefish duals, set for divisionals
Bigfork High School Wrestling competed in the Whitefish Duals on Friday, before a handful of team members headed to the Plains Invitational.
In Whitefish, the Vikings took on Whitefish, Eureka, Browning and Columbia Falls. Bigfork wrestled well in all the duals, head coach Josh Feller said.
Against Whitefish, Tate Chenard at 145 tossed Malik Haydon on his back, but ran out of time before he got the pin, Feller said. Chenard lost the match 14-8.
The dual against Eureka was full of good wrestlers who dominated Bigfork. Vinny Quirk pulled out the only Viking win against Eureka pinning Sam Johnson in 20 seconds.
Bigfork’s match up against Browning, and was the closest the team came to winning.
“Noah Vanquekelberg was out sick, and had he been able to wrestle, Bigfork could have came up with the win,” Feller said.
The final dual of the night was against Columbia Falls where Bigfork was at a disadvantage with open weight classes.
“Overall the team wrestled well Friday,” Feller said.
Saturday, only five of the Bigfork’s nine wrestlers travelled to Hot Springs.
“Saturday was primarily organized to get some younger wrestlers some meaningful matches headed into the week of divisionals,” Feller said.
The Vikings head to divisionals on Saturday in Eureka.
“The team is rested and almost fully healthy and ready to show the Western B-C competition what they have been training for all year,” Feller said.
