Williams is athlete of the week
Columbia Falls runner Derrick Williams was recently named men’s indoor track athlete of the week for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Williams, who runs for the Colorado State University-Pueblo Thunderwolves, collected his second win of the indoor season in the one mile run at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic on Feb. 6-7. He shaved two seconds off his season-best time and beat the competition by nearly two seconds, as he finished at 4:08.86. His adjusted time of 4:01.08 is the fastest in NCAA Division II and is an automatic qualifier for nationals.
Williams also had a first-place finish in the 3,000 meter run at the Colorado Mines Division II Invite on Jan. 30-31.
He graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 2012 and spent a year at Carroll College before transferring to CSU-Pueblo.
