Morley girls place second at Simplot Games
Bryn Morley of Bigfork finished second in the 1,600 and her sister Makena Morley was the runner-up in the 3,200 at the 37th annual Simplot Games indoor track meet on Saturday.
Bryn Morley, a freshman, was clocked in 4:57.03.
Tabor Scholl of Kremmling, Colorado, had the top time, 4:56.32.
Annie Hill, a freshman from Glacier, finished third, 4:57.60.
There were 32 runners in the 1,600 finals. Only four girls broke five minutes.
Makena Morley crossed the finish line in 10:41.94. Amelia Mazza-Downie, a sophomore from Melbourne, Australia, won it in 10:33.25. Mazza-Downie missed the meet record by .84 seconds.
There were 14 girls in the finals. Only three broke 11 minutes. The 3,200 was a 16-lap race.
Makena Morley won the 3,200 last year.
Logan Morley of Bigfork finished 23rd in the 1,600 with a time of 4:31.65. Ryan Smeeton of Calgary, Alberta, won it in 4:16.87. There were 36 runners in the finals.
Chase Smith of Helena took first place in the pole vault by clearing 15-feet.
