The Columbia Falls boys swim team had a solid showing at the Kalispell Invitational on Jan. 10. Colton Babcock won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.29 seconds — breaking the 50-second barrier for the first time.

Zayne Friar had a solid meet as well, taking second in the 100 butterfly at 59.71. As a team, the boys took fifth.

The girls had a tougher time, taking eighth overall. Top swimmer for the girls was Hayden Pierce, with a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle.

“As a team, we shaved off a total of 114.5 seconds,” said coach Mike Nelson. “That’s awesome considering we’re over halfway through the season.”

The team’s next meet is in Missoula on Jan. 24.

“It should be a good preview for state,” Nelson said.
