Close-Up auction
An auction to benefit Close-Up, the organization that helps send Columbia Falls High School students to Washington, D.C., will be held at the Blue Moon Nite Club on Friday, Jan. 30, with viewing at 5 p.m. and the auction starting at 6 p.m. All proceeds will go to supporting the trip to Washington, D.C. Anyone who wants to donate something or has questions can contact Dan Fairbank at 892-6500 ext. 254.
Metals class
An introduction to metals class will be offered at the Columbia Falls High School on Fridays from Jan. 30 through April 10 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Students will learn how to weld, braze and cut metals as well as oxyacetylene welding, brazing and cutting, and stick and MIG electric arc welding. Class is limited to eight. Cost is $100. Call 892 6501 for more information.
UM grads
The University of Montana-Missoula had 959 degree candidates for the fall semester 2014, including 69 certificates, 154 associate degrees, 536 bachelor’s degrees, 124 master’s degrees, 11 juris doctorates, 65 doctoral degrees and 44 double degrees. Local graduates included, from Columbia Falls — Sara Christensen, Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with honors; Uriah Keller, Bachelor of Music Education Music with honors; Alesia LaRoque, Bachelor of Arts in Education with high honors; Kristi Newton, Certificate in Management; Kristi Newton, Bachelor of Arts in Management; Paul Rossi, Bachelor of Music Education with honors; Logan Sandman, Bachelor of Science in Forestry; from East Glacier Park — Anne Grant, Master’s of Science in Environmental Studies; from Martin City — Monica Burns, Bachelor of Science in Health & Human Performance with honors.
MSU honor roll
A total of 752 students were named to the Montana State University’s President’s Honor Roll with a 4.0 grade point average for the fall semester 2014, including James Grisez, of Columbia Falls, and Sarah Metzger, of West Glacier. A total of 2,919 students were named to the Dean’s Honor Roll with a minimum 3.5 GPA, including Joel Ballard, Caleb Baumann, Hope Burlage, Lori Church, Ian Gordon, Justin Livingston, Melissa Livingston, Wyatt Price and Michael Zenz, of Columbia Falls; Hannah Bowerman, of Coram; Michele Hagen, of Martin City; and Erin Ramsay of West Glacier.

At the University of Montana, 2,183 students made the fall semester 2014 Dean’s List. Dean’s lists
Two undergraduate students from Columbia Falls were named to the Honor Roll for the 2014 fall session at Montana State University-Billings — Jinise Osborne and Danielle Rodgers. Rodgers had a 4.0 GPA
Victoria Houle, of Columbia Falls was named to the Dean’s List at Arizona State University for the spring 2014 semester.
Keri Potter, a communication arts major from Hungry Horse, was among more than 800 students at George Fox University, a Christian university in Newburg, Ore., who earned dean’s list recognition for the fall 2014 semester.
Cale Vukonich, of Columbia Falls, was named to the 2014 Fall Dean’s Honor List at Rocky Mountain College, in Billings.
Derrick Williams, of Columbia Falls, was named to the 2014 Fall Semester Dean’s List at Colorado State University-Pueblo with a 4.0 grade-point average.
