The Humane Society of Northwest Montana reports that Troy, a five-year old heeler-mix rescued from St. Mary’s Lodge near Glacier National Park, has been adopted after living at the Charlotte Edkins Animal Adoption Center in Kalispell for 16 months.

Thought to be abandoned at a gas station, Troy roamed around St. Mary’s Lodge during summer 2013. He avoided human contact but developed a bond with a friendly stray shepherd named Caden, which trusted humans.

Both dogs were rescued by Park rangers on Sept. 27. Troy later became the Humane Society’s dog greeter and Pet Park ambassador — he never met a dog he didn’t like and was always willing to show other dogs how to have fun in the Pet Park.

Although always wary of strangers, Troy’s new family says he’s bonding well with everyone, especially with his dog pack siblings, an adult Maltese/Papillon and a Husky mix puppy.
