Swimmers take third at divisonal meet
The Columbia Falls swim team took third at the western divisional tournament over the weekend. The team responded to hosting the meet with one of its best showings in weeks. Coach Mike Nelson said 36 of the team's 56 competitors qualified for the state meet in Roundup this week.
"The eight and under girls got us started right by winning our first event - the freestyle relay," Nelson said.
Avery Role led the 8U girls, taking second in high point honors with 35. Soup Fox and Sadie Cheff were both third.
Kaylee King and Zane McCallum were fifth in high points in the 9-10 age group and Riker Foster was fifth in the 13-14 age group.
The 8U girls won the 100-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1 minute, 24.5 seconds. Cheff won the 100 intermediate medley with a time of 2:07.72. Role won the 25 free in 19.70 and Cheff won the 25 breast stroke with a 28.55. McCallum won the 50 back stroke with a 43.71 and Fox won the 25 butterfly with a time of 23.42.
The 8U girls also won the 100 medley relay with a time of 1:39.68 and the 11-12 girls won the 200 medley with a time of 2:56.94.
