On June 6, Timothy R. Fangman, 68, of Omaha, Nebraska died in a head-on crash in Columbia Falls.

Fangman was driving a Toyota 4Runner northbound on the North Fork Road over the viaduct in Columbia Falls when the collision occurred.

Tom Manz, the Montana Highway Trooper investigating the crash, said it appeared one driver drifted into the other

lane in the 45-mph zone. The other driver, in a Dodge 1500 pickup truck, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

According to a press release from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Fangman was wearing

a seatbelt, but the collision was directly head-on, and the larger truck crunched in the Toyota’s front.

The collision occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m. at mile marker two.

Manz said the investigation was ongoing, so it was still unknown if alcohol or speed was a factor in the collision.
