Williams named all-American
Columbia Falls native Derrick Williams was recently named an all-American in track and field for Colorado State University Pueblo by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Williams finished third in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships with a time of 3:48.62.
He was also an All-Region selection, All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First Team and RMAC Champion in the 1,500 meters this outdoor season. He was named RMAC Male Athlete of the Meet following the RMAC Championships after also winning the 30,000 meter steeplechase.
Williams was a two-time indoor All-American this season, as he anchored the men's distance medley relay team to a national runner-up finish and then finished second in the 3,000 meter run. He is a sophomore at CSU-Pueblo and graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 2012.
