Academic all-state

Several Columbia Falls athletes have been named to the academic all-state list. The awards are given to high school athletes, managers and cheerleaders who earn a varsity letter in a Montana High School Association sanctioned sport and attain a 3.5 or better grade point average during the principal quarter of that sport. Swimmers included Hayden Pierce, Karyssa Nelson, Ashley Caffrey, Zayne Friar, Jacob Hohman and Colton Babcock. Wrestlers included Cody Walters, Ike Schweikert, Winfield West, Mason Fetters and Benjamin Windauer.

Youth softball

Registration for Columbia Falls Youth Softball for 2015 has begun. Sign-up forms can be found in the school offices or online at www.wildkatsoftball.org. Players can also register at the Columbia Falls Fire Department on Tuesday, March 10, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Clinics for all 2015 softball coaches will be offered by the Columbia Falls Youth Softball Association in partnership with Dave Kehr, the high school softball coach. The hour-long clinics will be held on March 17, 19, 23 and 24 and will help coaches teach the skills needed for softball play. Babe Ruth sign-ups

Glacier Babe Ruth is taking sign-ups for the 2015 baseball season for young men and women ages 13-15 from March 1 through May 1. Visit online at http://glacierbaberuth.org, click on “Registration,” print out the form and send it in by mail. Sign-ups after March 1 will be taken through March 15 with a $20 late sign-up fee. Baseball sign-ups

Columbia Falls Baseball Association is currently running registration for kids between the ages of 4-12. Sign-ups will take place at the Columbia Falls Fire Hall on March 7 from noon to 3 p.m. and on March 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. Registration will continue through March 31. Roller derby

Flathead Valley Roller Derby will compete against the Avalanche City Roller Girls from Fernie, B.C. at the Trade Center building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds on Saturday, March 21, with door opening at 6 p.m. and the bout starting at 7 p.m. Avalanche City just started their derby season on Feb. 21 with a loss against the Snakepit Derby Dames from Couer d’Alene, Idaho, while the local team is approaching the end of their season with just a few bouts left. They will compete in a tournament in Billings in April and will conclude their home season against the Copper City Queens from Butte in May. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, with kids 12 and under free. Advance tickets are available at Wheaton’s in Kalispell or from FVRD members.
