The Columbia Falls girls basketball team is still alive in the state tournament. The Wildkats cruised to a 71-31 victory over Fergus County High School of Lewistown on Friday afternoon in Hamilton.

The Kats shot out to a 34-11 lead at the half and never looked back.

The team played much better basketball than in the opener against Butte Central. They forced 19 Golden Eagle turnovers and committed just 10. They also shot 52 percent from the field.

Ciera Finberg and Allyson Gimbel had 12 points to lead the Kats, while Kiara Burlage and Miranda Livingston had nine apiece. All told, the Kats had 10 players in the scoring column.

Columbia Falls faces the loser of tonight’s Hamilton-Havre game on Saturday at 11 a.m. If they win that game, they’ll play for third place Saturday night.
