Suicide on the Sun Road
Glacier National Park officials report that a 40-year-old man from Virginia Beach, Va. found Tuesday, March 24, apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to Park spokeswoman Denise Germann, Park dispatch received a call about 10:15 a.m. from three visitors who were traveling along the Going-to-the-Sun Road and found a non-responsive male in a vehicle at a pull-out about one mile from the foot of Lake McDonald.
Park rangers responded and found a deceased male slumped over the steering wheel. The man was declared dead at the scene. An initial investigation indicates the man had a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.
The Flathead County Coroner arrived at the scene, and the body was transported to a local funeral home. The vehicle was impounded, and the man’s next of kin was notified.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in coordination with the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office. No further information is available at this time.
