Sara Johnson

Sara Ann ‘Sally’ Johnson, 97, passed away of natural causes May 7, 2015.

She was born Aug.16, 1917, in Dayton, Wash., to Nancy Della Harless and Walter Chessman. She was the youngest of five siblings and spent most of her life in Eastern Washington and graduated from Rosalia High School.

Sally married Wesley C. Johnson on Sept. 6, 1937, as he entered the Army and went to Germany to serve in World War II. They later raised their family in Coulee Dam, Wash., where Wes worked at the dam as a powerhouse operator and Sally supervised the school lunch program. They were married for 69 years and moved to Columbia Falls in 2008.

Sally Sunday school for several years and was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was also a past member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.  

She is survived by her son Ron Johnson and wife Judy, of Columbia Falls; daughter Laurel Ann Stroklund and husband Jim, of Yakima, Wash.; grandsons Chris Johnson and wife Stacey, Eric Johnson and Rhiannan Bragg, Paul Johnson, and Jared Stroklund; granddaughter Sara Thomas and husband Ricky; and five great grandchildren.

The Rev. Debra Wacker will officiate a graveside service at Spring Canyon Cemetery, near Grand Coulee, Wash., on Friday, May 29, 2015, at 1 p.m.

In memory of Sally, family asks that people simply perform an act of kindness, any gift, be it time or money, that would lift up another person’s spirit or provide a helping hand.
