Comment sought for road resurface

| May 13, 2015 7:50 AM

The Montana Department of Transportation seeks public comments on a proposal to resurface about 25.9 miles of Highway 83 in Lake and Flathead counties.

The project begins in Lake County at reference post 65.2, about six miles south of Swan Lake. The project extends north for 25.9 miles, ending in Flathead County at the junction with Montana 35.

Proposed work includes a chip seal.  Safety improvements will include centerline rumble strips, increased skid resistance upon the highway surface, and reflective pavement markings.

The purpose of the project is to enhance the safety of the highway, and take a cost-effective action to preserve and maintain the existing pavement. The public can expect single lane closures during working hours. More information regarding closures will be made available prior to the beginning of construction.

The project is scheduled for construction in 2016, depending on completion of all project development activities and funding. No new right-of-way or utility relocations will be needed.

The public may submit written comments to the Montana Department of Transportation at PO Box 7039, Missoula MT  59807-7039.
