Cats fall to Havre in playoffs, 47-13
The Columbia Falls football team’s season ended Saturday with a 47-13 loss to Havre on the road. The Wildcats racked up 300 yards in offense, but couldn’t overcome five turnovers in the losing effort.
Havre had a 21-0 lead in the second quarter when the Cats responded with a 65-yard pass from Dakota Bridwell to Wyatt Green to make it 21-7 after the good point-after attempt.
But on an ensuing possession, the Cats had a punt that went just 14 yards and gave Havre the ball inside the 30. Havre capitalized and it was 28-7 at the half. Havre came out and scored 13 in the third quarter to seal the victory.
Sean Hoerner caught a 12-yard pass from Bridwell in the fourth for the Cats last score. Havre rushed for 174 yards and passed for 246 yards in the in win. The Cats finish the year at 5-4. It’s a young team and most of the players will return.
“We started more sophomores than seniors this year,” noted coach Jackson Schweikert.
Schweikert said the boys played hard, but this season, they just had too many turnovers. In all of their losses this year, save for Whitefish, turnovers were a big factor.
Schweikert commended the play of outgoing seniors Tyler Murphy, Sean Hoerner and Stephen Lindsey.
Havre (8-2) goes on to play Dillon in the semifinals.
