Sage Wanner led from start to finish to win the Whitefish Invitational cross-country meet Saturday. Wanner ran the race in 16:40, beating Jaden Rowe of Frenchtown by 22 seconds.

As a team, the boys took fourth overall. Winfield West was 17th with an 18:04, Will Nelson was 19th with a 18:05 and Glenn Morden was 20th with a 18:06.

On the girls side, freshman Genevieve DeLorme had a great kick to take fourth, edging Sarah Perez of Whitefish by a second, 21:14. Raychel Hoerner was 11th, with a 22:02, Raina Crowell was 12th with a 22:03, Haylie Peacock was 18th with a 22:58, Megan Hanson was 19th with a 23:04, Lacey Johns was 22nd with a 23:32 and Danielle Schwalk rounded out the field for the Kats with a 23:36, good enough for 23rd.

As a team the girls took second.

DeLorme’s main goal was to beat Perez, noted coach Richard Menicke.

“That kick sealed the deal,” he said. “It was a pretty successful day.”

The teams travel to the divisional tournament Saturday in Polson. Wanner will have tougher competition there, as he faces Cameron Mielke of Hamilton and Ronald Venema of Corvallis. Both runners have bested him in races earlier this season.
