An elderly woman was attacked and injured at her residence west of Kalispell by a black bear on Sunday after the bear got inside her house,  between Batavia and Ashley Lake.  The incident was reported to the Sheriff’s office late Sunday afternoon.  An ambulance responded and transported the woman to Kalispell Regional Hospital, where she is being treated for severe injuries. Her name was not released.

Sheriff’s deputies and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks wardens and investigators responded.  Investigators could not determine the bear’s point of entry into the residence, but the bear exited through a window.

Officials noted that bears have been extensively fed with bird feed and other items at the residence.

FWP officials have traps at the location and are attempting to capture the bear, but has not been caught. FWP wardens have notified neighbors of the bear.
