GOLF: Bigfork boys win title in Plains
PLAINS — Ryggs Johnston carded a 68 to edge Caleb Bates of Thompson Falls by a stroke for medalist honors at the Plains Invitational golf tournament on Saturday.
The title was the third straight in invitational play for the freshman.
Bigfork’s Joseph Potkonjak checked in third with a 74. Jonny Cielak of Libby was fourth with a 76.
Bigfork won the team title with a 328 score, finishing five shots ahead of Thompson Falls.
Bigfork’s Colton Stodghill, 78, was sixth and Johnathan Landon tied for seventh with an 82.
In girls play, Popla Swangsawai of Eureka checked in with an 87 to easily take the medalist title. She finished nine shots ahead of runner-up Brooke Jacobs of Thompson Falls, who shot 96.
Only three girls broke 100.
