The Columbia Falls wrestling team took fourth in the state A wrestling tournament in Billings last week. The MatCats racked up 113 points, just 1.5 points behind third-place Hardin.

The team was led by Mason Fetters, who took second in the 145-pound weight class. Fetters was pinned by one of the top wrestlers in the state — Jarrett Degen of Belgrade — at the 1:42 mark. Fetters finished the postseason on a stellar note, with a divisional title and then getting to the championship match at state after struggling a bit most of the season.

Six MatCats finished in the top six, with Ben Windauer claiming third place at 126 pounds as he won by fall over Thunder Morales of Polson at 126 pounds.

Other top finishers were Hunter Peterson (fourth, 132) lost by decision to Cameron Brown of Polson; Winfield West (fifth, 113), won by major decision over Ryan Stewart of Havre; Storm Kemppainen (fifth, 170) won by decision over Konrad Zinke of Whitefish; and Colten McPhee (sixth, 160) lost by decision to Tyler Clapp of Glendive.

Havre won the tourney, Polson took second.

This is still a young team and the future looks bright.
