Hunting tree stands must be removed

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Warden Frank Bowen reminds hunters that tree stands used for hunting and all other temporary structures must be removed from the lands of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation.

Temporary structures may be kept on un-leased DNRC forested lands for 16 days in a 30-day period. No nails, spikes or screws may be put into the tree, and no permanent structures are allowed. General recreation road use rules apply, which means off-road use isn't allowed to access a stand.

Tree stands may not be placed in active timber sale areas. If found, the local game warden will remove them. The FWP urges hunters to remove any existing stands.

For further information contact the local DNRC office or the FWP Region 1 Headquarters.
