Track teams both take second at state

Led by Sage Wanner in the 3,200 meters and its relay teams, the Columbia Falls boys track team took second at the state A meet in Bozeman last week. The girls also had a great meet, tying Hamilton for second. Like the boys, the girls also won the 400 relay.

Wanner won the 3,200 in 9:48.15 and was third in the 1,600 with a 4:30.77. Braxton Reiten, Logan Kolodejchuk, Stephen Lindsey and Tanner Dana won the 400 relay in 43.25.

Dana was third in the 100 with a 11.33; second in the 200 with a 22.54  and fourth in the 400 meters with a 51.29. The Cats took second in the 1,600 relay with a 3:26.44. Dakota Bridwell was third in the javelin with a throw of 183 feet even and Kolodejchuk was sixth with a 168-0.

Logan Stephens was fifth in the long jump with a 20-6. Blake Arneson was sixth in the shot put with a 45-11. Kyler Burns was fifth in the high jump with a 6-0.

Coach Jamie Heinz expected a rematch with Corvallis, but Dillon rose to the occasion and won the boys title behind the sprinting of Troy Anderson.

On the girls side, Ashley Caffrey, Ellie Johnson, Kiara Burlage and Mary Baker won the 400 relay with a time of 50.23 and took second in the 1,600 relay with a 4:09.51.

Allyson Gimbel took second in the shot put with a 39-7. Caffrey was sixth in the pole vault with a 9-6. 

Johnson was sixth in the long jump with a 15-2.5 and sixth in the discus with a 117-3. Kaitlyn Casazza was third in the 300 hurdles with a 47.67 and fifth in the 100 hurdles with a 15.80.

Baker was fourth in the 100 with a 13.02 and fourth in the 100 hurdles with a 15.75.

Corvallis won the girls title.
